Fresh digital thinking – welcoming Jon Patrick to the Sowdens team and celebrating one year of Sami

We’re bringing even more firepower to our digital offering

Hot on the heels of welcoming Louise Scott as Head of Client Services last month, we’re continuing to invest in the future of the agency with another key appointment – while celebrating one very special first anniversary.

Search. Strategy. Performance. AI.

Digital marketing is evolving rapidly, and clients increasingly expect agencies to deliver more than campaigns. They want commercial outcomes, strategic thinking and partners who understand their business.

Which is exactly why we’re delighted to welcome Jon Patrick to Sowdens as our new Senior Account Manager.

Bringing extensive experience across e-commerce, digital marketing and performance strategy, Jon joins the agency following a career working with major brands including Mars, Durex, Greene King, Hobbs, Viking Direct and Scholl.

His expertise spans SEO, paid search, CRO, Shopify development and large-scale web projects, alongside experience supporting international expansion and complex re-platforming programmes.

And he’ll be bringing that experience to a growing portfolio of ambitious clients including Quickline, global Japanese tech giant NEC Software Solutions, City Health Care Partnership CIC, Hull York Medical School and Ørsted.

Continuing to build the North’s best strategic digital talent

Jon’s arrival reflects our continued investment in senior talent as we strengthen the strategic, creative and digital capabilities behind our client work.

Today, we’re proud to support organisations across broadband, healthcare, software, education and energy, helping brands connect creativity with intelligent strategy and measurable commercial results.

For our Owner, Creative Lead and Director Polly Sowden, strengthening the agency’s digital capability remains a key priority.

“Jon brings exactly the kind of digital and client management experience we’re continuing to build into the agency,” said Polly.

“He understands how performance, strategy and client relationships need to work together to deliver meaningful results.

“As our client portfolio evolves, strengthening that strategic delivery capability remains incredibly important to us.”

Strategy before creativity

In his new role, Jon will support strategic account development, integrated campaign delivery and digital growth projects across the agency’s expanding portfolio.

What attracted me to Sowdens was the ambition of the agency, the quality of the work and the opportunity to work across a really diverse mix of sectors,” said Jon.

“Having worked across retail and FMCG brands, I’ve learned that great marketing starts with understanding the client’s purpose and seeing the business through their eyes. Strategy, creativity and commercial outcomes all need to work together.”

For Jon, the strongest work starts long before creative execution.

“It’s important to understand the ‘why’ behind the work, the opportunity it builds on and the performance it should drive. Strategy shapes the outcome and aligns everyone around what success looks like.”

Great work starts with great relationships

For Jon, the strongest partnerships are built on understanding a client’s business and becoming an extension of their team.

“Clients increasingly want agencies to feel like part of their wider team. It’s about understanding their opportunities, their challenges and ultimately caring about their business as much as they do. The deeper that understanding, the better the results.”

While AI and automation continue to reshape marketing, Jon believes the role of agencies has become even more important.

“AI is a fantastic tool, but it should be a starting point rather than the finished answer. Clients still need human experience, strategic thinking and clear points of reference.”

Celebrating one year of Sami

Alongside welcoming Jon, we’re also celebrating Marketing Executive Sami Bourne reaching her first anniversary with the agency.

Over the past 12 months, Sami has grown her role across client services, content and social media, supporting accounts including City Health Care Partnership CIC, Ørsted and Hull York Medical School, while taking greater ownership of the agency’s own social media activity.

“Sami has had a brilliant first year with us and has quickly become a hugely valued member of the team,” said Polly.

“She has grown in confidence, taken on more responsibility and brought real energy to our marketing and content activity.

“She is a great example of what we want to continue building at Sowdens: talented people who care about the work, support each other and want to keep learning.”

44 years in. Still building.

Growth isn’t just about welcoming new faces. It’s about creating an environment where talented people want to stay, develop and make an impact.

With Louise settling into life as Head of Client Services, Jon bringing fresh digital expertise to the team and Sami celebrating her first year, we’re excited about what comes next.

More capability. More expertise. More momentum. Watch this space.
