At Sowden & Sowden, we believe in celebrating the extraordinary people and causes that make a real difference in our community.
That’s why we’re proud to sponsor the Parent Carer Award at this year’s CHAMPs (Caring, Helpful, Amazing People) Awards. Now in its third year, the CHAMPs Awards recognise the vital contribution carers make to individuals, families, services, and communities across Hull and East Yorkshire.
The Parent Carer Award shines a spotlight on parents who are caring for a family member aged 25 or under with additional needs, a disability, or a long-term illness. It celebrates the amazing ways parent carers go above and beyond to make sure their children can take part in everyday life, often without ever seeking recognition.

According to the Carers Information & Support Service (CISS), one in eight people are carers – regularly supporting a relative, partner or friend who, without that care, would be unable to live independently. Carers provide both practical and emotional support, helping loved ones to stay connected and avoid isolation, loneliness and depression. The reality is that caring can be incredibly tough and demanding, which is why initiatives like the CHAMPs Awards matter so much – recognising compassion, resilience, and the life-changing value carers bring.
Our Managing Director, Polly Sowden, shared why these awards resonate so strongly with us:
“Supporting the CHAMPs Awards aligns with the values we both preach and practice at Sowden & Sowden. We love to champion everyday heroes who don’t often get the recognition they deserve, and whenever we can, we commit our time and resources as a team to causes that create a positive impact for others. Many carers don’t even identify as ‘carers’ at first – they’re simply doing what anyone would to support loved ones through difficult times. These awards offer an opportunity to celebrate their compassion and resilience.”
Putting heart into community impact
From mentoring school teams to offering internships and giving careers talks, our team is passionate about inspiring the next generation. Every single member of Sowden & Sowden deserves a mention for their commitment to helping clients and causes with social good at their core.
We’ve also recently worked alongside CHCP – founders of the CHAMPs Awards – on a recruitment campaign designed to attract talent to Hull’s community health services, bringing compassion-centred care to the forefront.
And when it comes to fundraising, we don’t shy away from a challenge. From the Yorkshire Three Peaks to ‘It’s a Knockout’, our team has raised more than £10,000 for charities like Dove House Hospice and supported initiatives such as Mrs Cawley’s Little Stars.
Our community support doesn’t stop there. We’ve worked with the Brownlee Foundation to inspire young athletes, offering branding, PR, and event support to encourage more children to take up sport. And closer to home, we’ve long championed Hull’s iconic Adelphi music venue, helping with everything from websites to social media – even rolling our sleeves up to keep the place running during tough times.

Polly added:
“So often it’s individual members of our team who suggest events and charities that might need our support – it’s a huge part of who we are as an agency, and it makes me feel incredibly proud. We can’t wait to attend this year’s awards!”
The 2025 CHAMPs Awards, hosted by the Carers Information & Support Service (CISS) as part of Hull’s Carers Partnership Board, will take place on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, from 12:30pm to 4pm at Hull Guildhall.
This annual celebration honours Hull’s unpaid carers, as well as the professionals and services who support them. The CHAMPs Awards, and the work of organisations like CHCP, embody values close to our heart – service, community, and the power of human connection.
We’re proud to play our part in celebrating the everyday heroes who make Hull and East Yorkshire a better place.
