At Sowden & Sowden, we’ve always believed you don’t need the biggest budget or flashiest stand to make an impact – just a brilliant idea and the courage to run with it.
That’s exactly what we proved at FutureScape 2025, where we took a guerrilla-style approach that got us noticed by over 9,000 industry professionals – without even having a stand.

How we turned a lanyard into leads
As the official lanyard sponsor for the Public Spaces Expo, our bright yellow branding was literally hanging round every delegate’s neck. We went one step further, roaming the halls in oversized lanyard sashes, sparking conversations, swapping business cards, and offering the chance to win a £100 Amazon voucher. We also handed out branded carpenter’s pencils – a playful nod to the landscaping and construction world – each one carrying a QR code offering a free digital marketing audit.
“Events are pivotal, but too often companies leave with sore feet and very few real leads,” said Polly Sowden, Director at Sowden & Sowden.
“With a bit of Yorkshire spirit and humour, we wanted to show that bold ideas – not big budgets – are what really cut through.” Our Account Director Ryan Thomas added:
“The lanyard is literally hanging round everyone’s neck – so why not own it? We had dozens of meaningful conversations with people who might never have found their way to a stand.”

What we achieved
Across the two-day event, we:
• Had over 100 conversations with potential clients
• Booked a surge of free digital marketing audits
• Put the Sowdens name in front of virtually every delegate in the hall
Creativity, credibility, and a touch of Yorkshire flair
For over four decades, we’ve helped some of the biggest names in construction, landscaping, energy and manufacturing stand out – from Vuba and Easihold to Arbor Forest Products and the Aura Innovation Centre. Our work has launched challenger brands into the FEBE Growth 100 and delivered a 3,373% ROI on marketing investment – proof that smart, creative strategy pays off.
Five quick tips for exhibition success
After decades of helping brands make their mark, here’s what we always tell clients:
1. Start early – success begins before you arrive.
2. Be bold – don’t wait for buyers to come to you.
3. Network smartly – other exhibitors might be your next customers.
4. Set clear goals – and get your team aligned.
5. Follow up fast – the show is just the start.
“We wanted to take our own advice,” added Polly. “Plan before you go, be bold on the day, and move fast afterwards. That’s how you turn a lanyard into leads.”
