Sowdens set to deliver Hull’s new Folk Festival

New for 2013 – Hull Folk Festival is coming to the Hull Marina, Victoria Pier, Humber Street and Old Fruit Market area on 30th & 31st August.

Hull City Council has chosen local marketing and events agency Sowden & Sowden to deliver an event that will celebrate folk culture, its traditional values and varied styles, on our doorstep and from around the world.

Polly Sowden, Director of Sowden & Sowden, explains: “We’re delighted to have won the tender to run Hull Folk Festival 2013 – it’s the next step on our track record of delivering a catalogue of successful events in Hull to help make it a destination of choice.

“We’ve been involved in Freedom and Humber Street Sesh in recent years and we’re keen to see this area of the city flourish. We want to make this Hull’s first sustainable festival and ‘green’ will be very much at the heart of the everything we do. We’ll also be seeking sponsorship from businesses across the city to help support different elements of the event.

“We aim to build the event year on year so that it becomes a regular feature on the national folk calendar and one day be as big as Beverley or Whitby Folk Festival, which is why we’ve teamed up with Folk in Hull – the guys that know the folk music scene inside out.”

The event will provide a platform for local talent that everyone can get involved in. Every corner you turn you’ll see and hear the sounds of folk music, there’ll be an array of family activities including the Folk Den, storytelling, traditional dancing and music workshops to get involved in.

Details of events and music acts will be released over the coming weeks.
