The Adelphi Club, a landmark of the local music scene, has organised a special itinerary of events to mark 45 years since the man in black’s renowned concert at the infamous US prison, San Quentin.
Doors at the club will open from 8pm followed by a specially licensed screening of the original 1969 Granada TV documentary, Live at San Quentin.
Music performances will begin from 9.30pm with support acts Cash in the Attic and Tango & Cash before headliner Dave Burnham, who will perform as Acoustic Cash, takes to the stage.
Burnham, who also fronts tribute act Keep It Cash, discovered the iconic baritone of Cash aged just 14 and has been a keen admirer of him ever since. His uncanny likeness to Johnny Cash has drawn praise from several quarters and led to numerous high-profile performances including playing at the premier of Walk the Line, a film inspired by the life of Cash.
Paul Jackson owner of The Adelphi Club said: “Johnny Cash was a great musician, his unique brand of country music echoed around the world and can still be heard to this day.
“His performance at San Quentin was a seminal moment in music so it is appropriate that we dedicate a whole evening to the great man to mark 45 years since the gig.
“Dave Burnham can recreate the essence of Johnny with such accuracy and we’re delighted that he will be performing.”
Dave Burnham of Acoustic Cash said: “I’ve long been an admirer of Johnny Cash and it’s hard to believe it’s been 45 years since Johnny first walked out on that stage at San Quentin.
“Cash’s energy and enthusiasm captured the imagination of many musicians, including myself, and changed the face of music for ever.
“To be able to take part in an event like this and remember Johnny in our own little way is amazing.”
This is a pay on the door event only, entrance will be charged at £3. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/events/1412359029008619/?fref=ts
