Goodwin bring culture to the community

Our client, the Goodwin Development Trust, has hit the headlines again today for their plans to develop an under-used church on the Thornton Estate into a community and performance ‘hub’ in the run up to and beyond 2017.

Plans were submitted to Hull City Council’s planning committee a couple of months back and they’re hoping to get approval some time in November, providing their funding bid is successful.

“Culture is about local people getting involved in things they wouldn’t ordinarily and opening up ‘the arts’ to everyday people,” as Peter McGurn, their Chief Executive states in the article.

This is something that Goodwin is passionate about and many people may not realise that, as an organisation, they are heavily involved in arts and culture, whether that’s through their ‘Estate of the Nation’ project or support for Middle Child Theatre.

Goodwin, and other local social enterprises will be key to ensuring that local people are involved in Hull’s year as City of Culture and we can’t wait to see what else they’ll have in store. Watch this space.
