As an agency with strong females leads, challenging the exclusion and marginalisation of women and girls is a subject close to our hearts. Celebrating women and their achievements is in our culture, it comes naturally to us, and what better day to shout about it than #InternationalWomensDay.
Research has shown that more inclusive leadership in business leads to higher productivity, better decision-making, happier staff and healthier bottom lines. With this year’s central theme as #ChooseToChallenge, we have decided to celebrate the women who have inspired us throughout our lives and careers by challenging stereotypes and catalysing change.
Without further ado…
“She wanted to explore the world like any man could, bravely and independently, even though at the time it was strongly frowned upon by society. But she did it anyway. The sheer gutsiness of this woman is inspiring. If you want to do something – do it regardless of what other people think.”
“I’d choose Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because she stands up for what she believes is right, calls out the bulls***ters and works hard to make sure the underrepresented know they have a voice. She will change the course of the future for the generation of tomorrow.”
Paul’s keeping it characteristically short and sweet:
“She was a good mover.”
“Elizabeth I achieved so much in a time when a monarch truly ruled. She stood her ground as a female ruler, refusing to marry in a time when women were regarded as inferior to men and less knowledgeable. I believe she had an enormous impact on how women were seen by society and changed history significantly.”
“Tenacious and unapologetic, Margaret Atwood is not afraid to speak up for what she believes in. Her speculative fiction gives us insight into dystopian worlds, serving as a stark warning in times of Trump and threats to our democracy.”
“I’m a massive fan of anything Doctor Who, so Verity Lambert clinches it for me. She was one of the first female TV producers and had to fight an uphill battle in a man’s world to make Doctor Who the long-term success it still is today. I’ll certainly always be grateful to her for bringing one of my favourite media franchises to life!”
“A woman that really inspires me is Grace Beverley, an award-winning business owner who’s only 24! She runs a sustainable athleisure brand named TALA, which uses recycled plastic bottles and factory off-cuts to produce its products. She’s a true girl boss!”
“Giovanna Fletcher is a huge inspiration to me as she’s managed to find time to be an author, actress, blogger, vlogger and presenter, all whilst juggling 3 kids. As well as emerging victorious as the winner of I’m A Celebrity in 2020! She also keeps my 3 kids entertained with her CBeebies series The Baby Club.”
“Jessica Walsh carved a successful career to become CEO of creative agency &Walsh in an industry where only 5% are female. Her art is brave, controversial and feminist and she’s not afraid to ruffle a few feathers to make an impact.”
Jessica’s proven popular with our team as she’s also Al’s top pick for most inspirational woman:
“Whenever I want to see a unique design/art style perfectly choreographed, I browse Jessica’s Instagram and take a look at her work. It never fails to give me a creative boost.”
Who are the women that inspire you? The conversation doesn’t stop here. Let us strive for gender equality every day, in everything that we do; let us harness the power of strong female leaders and break down the barriers of patriarchal society.
