COSMO Cup is coming home

The annual COSMO Cup is coming to Dene Park, Dunswell on Bank Holiday Weekend, Sunday 26 May, from 12 noon.

The Club COSMO Foundation raises funds for inspirational music and football projects to enhance the lives of our local community – realpropergood.

Once again, the Newland Vets will take on rivals AFC Fruit as they battle it out for the prestigious COSMO trophy. And this year the event is set to be action packed, with even more activities for families to get involved in, followed by an evening of musical entertainment.

Organisers are hoping that even more people turn out to support the match, which is held in memory of Jack ‘COSMO’ Williamson, popular local DJ who sadly died in March 2011 from a brain aneurysm, at only 21 years of age.

Jack’s dad, Mal Williamson, is humbled by the amount of support the foundation has received over the last few years and is looking forward to this year’s COSMO Cup: “Jack’s spirit lives on through the Club COSMO Foundation and I’m amazed that so many people have got involved in events throughout the past two years and would like to say a massive thank you to them all.”

New for this year, the event will kick off with the Six-A-Side SESH, a tournament set up in 2010 to raise funds for a local boys football team. The first tournament was a huge success with over 150 band members playing football against each other in a fun yet competitive environment, raising £2,000. This year 20 local bands will take to the pitch and battle it out in the knock out competition.

As well as the old favourites such as children’s activities, the Slampionship and the COSMO Cup game, this year will also feature FootGolf – a new craze sweeping the nation, where players have to precisely kick a football into the hole in as few shots as possible.

Following the main event and the presentation of the COSMO Cup to the mighty champions, the event will continue into the evening with music from top local bands and DJs, including Happy Endings, Half Deaf Clatch, Rebel Sell, Mammal Hum, Endoflevelbaddie and DJ Prefix.
