Take a 'Walk of Art' in the Avenues!

In a quest to nurture the region’s talented art scene, Sowdens are sponsoring a brand-new community arts initiative called Walk of Art. Creative residents in the Avenues, HU5, are set to open up their homes, gardens and garages to showcase and sell their art work, as part of a huge exhibition.

Spanning from craftspeople to sculptors and potters to photographers, the event, held on Sunday 24th September between 10am and 4pm, promises to be a fantastic family day out, celebrating creative talent in the area.

'The Avenues,’ HU5, is a well-known cultural hub in Hull, and as it happens, it is also where many of the ‘Sowdens team’ live, one more reason to sponsor this fantastic event! 25 locations in the Avenues are set to host an eclectic range of arts and crafts, with an exhibition being held at St. Cuthbert’s Church from 11:30am.

The event has been shaped by Jacky Ward Lomax, a former arts teacher specialising in 3D sculpting, who was inspired by Horsforth Walk of Art, Leeds. She said “City of Culture has brought in lots of creative talent from all over and I wanted to showcase the incredible talent that we have here in the Avenues. I have been overwhelmed by the response from local artists and I hope to make it a regular event for the area.”

You may wonder why we are sponsoring this event? But the answer is simple… We are, and always have been, heavily involved in the creative community and HU5 is our home. Our managing director Paul Sowden is also an artist who is exhibiting at the event. Above all, ‘Walk of Art’ is a perfect way for Sowdens to support the local community.

Paul, managing director of Sowden & Sowden commented “I am inspired by the creative talents that we have in the region, especially in the Avenues… It’s really important for us to support local initiatives that get the creative juices flowing.”

The event is free for the public to attend and aims to inspire future generations of artists, giving people the opportunity to purchase works of art before the talent become too famous!

Further information can be found on the Facebook page @walkofarthull where you can download a leaflet and a map of locations where exhibitions will be on display.

Could this be the next annual social event that shines far beyond Hull’s year in the spotlight?
