Club COSMO Foundation supports Humber Street Sesh

Humber Street Sesh will play host to the COSMO Beat The Keeper Warehouse in honour of popular local DJ Jack ‘COSMO’ Williamson, who died suddenly in March 2011 from an undetected brain aneurysm at only 21 years of age.

Humber Street Sesh, taking place on Saturday (4th August), is the first event of its kind and has been built by support from the community – local people, businesses and community groups have come together to build this unique event to celebrate Hull’s fantastic music, arts and culture scene. The whole event has been made possible by pledges from local people and organisations that have raised over £15,000 in only 6 weeks.

Over 140 acts are set to perform from 10am – 1am alongside over 50 DJ’s, artists and street performers. Seven stages will provide Live Music, Comedy and Spoken Word and the quite surreal Silent Disco will be hosted by The Residents Association, whilst the Pop Up Street Cinema will be programmed by Cult Cinema and Hull Film.

The organisers of Humber Street Sesh have a close association with the Club COSMO Foundation, as one of Jack’s first DJ jobs was with organiser Mak from the Sesh, and many of his friends are DJ’ing at the event. They asked Club COSMO to get involved by adding a family element to the event – the charity’s mission is to ‘raise funds for inspirational music and football projects to enhance the lives of the local community’ – so naturally they were keen to get involved.

Mark Page, who is organising the festival, knew Jack well, he commented; “There’s so much creative talent in the city that we want to celebrate through the Humber Street Sesh and it’s very important to have Jack with us on the day. He was such a special talented guy who we all dearly miss. He lives on with us in spirit, through the Club COSMO Foundation and events such as this that celebrate the creative prowess of Hull, of which Jack was very much part of. Humber Street Sesh is for Jack and all the Jack’s of the city.”

People attending the Humber Street Sesh will have the chance to test their penalty skills by trying to beat one of 14 keepers in our specially decked-out warehouse on Humber Street from 11am – 6pm. It’s a £1 a go and if you do ‘beat the keeper’ you will a special COSMO prize! All proceeds are donated solely to the Club COSMO Foundation.

Visitors will also have the chance to meet and have their photo taken with Roary the Tiger and Prospect Centre’s mascot Buzzwell the Bee.

Since Jack sadly passed away his friends and family have held a variety of events and fundraising activities in his memory to raise money for the CLUB COSMO Foundation, which goes towards supporting young people involved in music and sport – two of Jack’s passions.

This event will be followed by the COSMO Cup later in the month on 19th August when Newland Vets take on the Champions from last year AFC Fruit at Dene Park, Dunswell.
